What’s Digestion have to do with Your Health?
That is a good question to ask? Our digestion can affect our emotional , social health and physical health. Our digestive tract is where we have colonies of bacterial and we want to nurture good bacterial that promote good health. How do these levels of good bacteria change? What we eat can change this, stress and medications such as antibiotics can change this. There is research that indicates when these good bacteria get out of balance that can influence our health. We can influence that balance by what we eat. In addition these good bacteria influence our bodies level of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which contributes to our feelings of happiness. www.scientificamerican.com/article/gut-feelings-the.second-brain-in-our-gastrointestinal-systems-excerpt.
How does digestion affect our social health? We may feel uncomfortable being around other people with the responses that our digestive tracts give in response to the foods that we eat . We may not be comfortable using a public restroom or just being far from a rest-room further limiting our opportunities for fun and interaction with our friends and coworkers, and family.
How does digestion affect our physical health? We are what we eat and what we digest. If we do not digest well, then we are not getting the nutrition that we need to rebuild our bodies. A common example of this is acid reflux. We may think that we have too much acid but this is rarely the case. It is usually just the opposite, our bodies have too little acid and /or digestive enzymes in our bodies. This is sadly very common for many in their 30’s and up. As the body does not digest well , it takes longer to digest and can actually rot instead. Yuck! This can create a host of problems. One of which is acid reflux. Since it easier to go up it does and gives us symptoms. A common solution is a proton pump inhibitor that we can get over the counter or by medication. So now the symptoms do not happen ,no more acid reflux but now the digestion continues to get worse. Decreasing acid decreases protein from being digested which decreases your bodies ability to repair proteins such as muscles. An acid environment is needed to digest calcium and without good digestion there is an increased risk or broken bones associated with osteopenia or osteoporosis. In addition the cells in our stomach that make the hydrochloric acid which decrease production with a proton pump inhibitor also make B12 which is needed by your body to make healthy red blood cells. Not enough B12 leads to decreased energy. Now that you know how important digestion , did you know that there are things that can be done to improve I your digestion naturally so that you can enjoy improved emotional, social and physical health?

Prior to having my first acute low back injury, I noticed my digestion was at times too fast or too slow. I could be gassy at times. It did not make sense to me and since it was gradual condition., I did not know what caused it.
After receiving my first chiropractic adjustment in 2002. I noted over the next month or two that my digestion became more regular without any extremes and their was noticeably no gas.
The difference was chiropractic allow the nervous system that is charge of everything to function increased 100% capacity.
In addition through Nutrition Response Testing, my doctor was able to advise me foods that I needed to let my body rest from so I could further heal.
